29/07/2025 ‘Exotic Gardening’ – An evening with Steve Edney
‘Exotic Gardening – An Evening Lecture with Steve Edney from ‘No Name Nursery’ – Tuesday 29/07/2025 @ 7pm
As a last minute addition to our series of masterclasses and plantsman’s walks we are delighted to be able to confirm a visit from guest speaker Steve Edney to Wildegoose this Summer to deliver his talk ‘Exotic Gardening’.
Steve Edney was formally the head gardener at ‘The Salutation’ Garden – a famous Edwin Lutyens designed garden in Sandwich, Kent. Having started working at ‘The Salutation’ in 2005, Steve oversaw the complete restoration of this most special of gardens. The resulting garden won numerous accolades including ‘Most Romantic Garden…’.and at the time was recognised as one of the finest gardens in the country. During this time, in 2018 Steve and ‘The Salutation’ garden won Gold at RHS Hampton Court flower show in the floral marque for a display of exotic plants. In 2019 Steve won a Gold medal at Chelsea and later that year won Gold and the coveted “Tudor rose award” for best in show at Hampton court flower show.
Since leaving ‘the Salutation’ Steve and his parter Louise have been creating their own garden at ‘The Land’ which is now home to the ‘The No Name Nursery’. The nursery offers a vast array of beautifully grown plants from hardy perennials to tender exotics and everything inbetween. They both regularly appear on the RHS Trials Plant Committees for their expert plant knowledge. Exotic planting is just one of their great passions. Steve was bitten by the exotic plant bug 18years ago when, as head gardener at ‘the Salutation’, he was looking for different ways to extend the season of interest. This talk explores hardy and tender exotics, exotic flowers and exotic foliage choices and how to get the best from this style of gardening that is not for the faint hearted.
This promises to be a wonderful talk, I have had the pleasure of hearing Steve lecture before and he is a fantastic speaker. Steve and Louise will be bringing a selection of rare and unusual plants from their nursery for sale.
£15 per person to include tea/coffee and biscuits on arrival. The garden gates open from 6.15pm to enjoy the garden, plants for sale etc in advance of the talk starting at 7pm. Places are limited so please book online.
