Braiding Sweet Grass
by Robin Wall Kimmerer
It was towards the end of a fabulous lecture day with Alys Fowler this year that the subject of “books you would recommend” came up and this one was so emphatically recommended by Alys Fowler and members of the audience alike that I made a note to add it to my reading list for the Winter.
The writer Robin Wall Kimmerer is a mother, scientist, decorated professor and enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. This is a deeply moving book that shows how factual, objective science and the ancient and spiritual understanding of the Natural World held by indigenous communities can compliment and enhance each other.
