Galega x hartweldii ‘Lady Wilson’ – Pea flowers in all their forms are rather special. From Lathyrus vernus and aureus in the spring to sweet peas and Colutea ‘Copper Beauty’ in the summer, they all are a sheer delight.  Gallega as a genus is more commonly known as ‘Goats Rue’ and has a chequered reputation. From being difficult to grow, to being a nuisance self seeder. ‘Lady Wilson’ seems to buck the trend.  For starters ‘Lady Wilson’ is sterile so there is no risk of seeding around. Instead creating robust long lived clumps. It is an absolute highlight of early to mid summer when the plant is covered in racemes of rich Lilac flowers not unlike a giant fetch. On richer soils, some support may be advantageous.
