Molinia caerulea subsp. arundinacea ‘Karl Foerster’
Molinia caerulea subsp. arundinacea ‘Karl Foerster’ is named after the famous German plantsman who did an extraordinary amount for ornamental grasses during the first half of the twentieth century: selecting and breeding some truly wonderful varieties. He was also extraordinary for protecting a number of Jews from the Nazis during the Second World War by employing them in secret on his nursery. So this must be a good grass and indeed it is. A tall elegant arching grass with plumes of particularly dark purple grey flowers and green foliage that are transformed in Autumn to a glorious golden fountain. Truly beautiful.
