Penstemon digitalis ex. ‘Joke’

We are really taken with the Penstemon digitalis cultivars that have been fairly recent introductions to the garden. Penstemon digitalis ex ‘Yoke’ are grown from seed collected from our original plants so may vary slightly from the parent plants. The beautiful deep maroon purple foliage emerges in Spring, which makes a lovely backdrop to the Spring tulips. By the time it has reached flowering height the foliage colour is still a lovely dark green flushed purplish black and combined with delicate tubular lilac flowers. Sun or part shade. Height 1m. Can be a bit lax in habit so a few pea sticks are recommended to hold up the odd straggly stem.
