The Accidental Garden’

‘Gardens, Wilderness and the Space In Between’

by Richard Mabey

There is much in the garden media world at the moment about what constitutes a garden and whether indeed we should be gardening.  The re-wilding movement has entered into the gardening world and suddenly we as gardeners are questioning what approach we should all be taking.

This wonderful book by Richard Mabey addresses this very issue.  Richard himself an instinctive hands off rewilder, his partner Polly a compulsive intuitive grower.  Could they find a common ground with their new patch of garden in rural Norfolk.

The unfolding book charts the ebb and flow of gardening, the gradual rewilding as we the gardener start to step away and the beauty that can be found within this.

Ultimately the garden becomes a fusion between cultivated and wild. A compelling read which is part memoir, part nature book, part gardening book, which I found further cemented my opinions on the way in which we garden here at Wildegoose.
