Miscanthus nudipes

Miscanthus nudipes is a naturally occuring species from the Eastern Himalayas: found in Nepal, Tibet and Assam at high altitudes. It has happily overwintered here in Shropshire and seems tougher than the better known species Miscanthus nepalensis. It is known not only for its hardiness but also its drought tolerance and is therefore being used in a lot of new Miscanthus breeding programmes. The beautiful flower heads are large but delicate with fine pinkish brown dangling threads creating a lovely ethereal effect. Height 1-1.2m. Sunny position and reasonable drainage.
