The Almanac
‘A Seasonal Guide to 2025’
by Lia Leendertz
For many years I have seen Lia Leendertz ‘Almanac’ on shop shelves in the later half of the year and have rarely given it a second glance.
That all changed around 3 months ago, I was potting up some plants at the potting bench, and decided I wanted something to listen to. The news was too bleak, I wanted something a little more uplifting. A podcast by Lia Leendertz, charting the seasonal changes, was recommended to me and I decided to try it. I was suddenly completely captivated.
I am sure that I am not alone in feeling that I need at times to escape from the modern 24 hour news cycle and want to reconnect with some of our past traditions. In Lia Leendertz gorgeous book, each month she charts the lunar cycle, how to garden by the moon, a megalith of the month, what to look out for in the nights sky, a star story, a song for the month, the tide calendar and to finish off a seasonal cake.
For someone that has worked outside all my life, I have found following Lia Liandertz Almanac incredibly grounding. A chance not only to reconnect with the seasonal changes but also to reconnect with our folk traditions which have slowly been lost.
