I have been really looking forward to James Rebanks latest book ‘The Place of Tides’. His previous work ‘English Pastoral’ is still one of the best books I have ever read. This book tells the story of a trip he made to the far reaches of the artic, to an old woman who he had met many years previous and whose simple subsistence lifestyle had so captivated his imagination he sent her a letter asking if he could return. This is the story of that old woman’s last season on the island and her place in that unique and ancient landscape. A fitting book for modern times and what ancient ways of life and the wisdom that goes with them that we are at constant risk of loosing.
