The Wild Garden

Written by William Robinson

Early in my gardening career, I was told to read two books.  ‘The Well Tempered Garden’ by Christopher Lloyd and the ‘The Wild Garden’ by William Robinson.

Despite being first published in 1870, ‘The Wild Garden’ by William Robinson’ is as relevent now as it was when it was first written.

Written as a result of William Robinson’s travels through Europe, where he had admired plants growing wild in meadows and woodlands.  A stark contrast to the regimental Victorian breeding schemes back home.

His home Gravetye Manor in West Sussex was his experimental playground.  Much of how we garden today is thanks to this gentlemen.

Timeless writing which is essential reading for and gardener looking for a beautiful, resilient garden.
