What Gardeners Grow

600 Plants Chosen by the World’s Greatest Plantspeople

What makes us want to grow a new plant?  Often we see a plant growing in a garden or a picture in a magazine.  However, more often than not for me it is because I have read about a plant in a book.  In this book, 250 plants people have been asked to write about one of their favourite plants.  What I love about this book is that it is not a Dorling Kindersley style list of plants with generic pictures but a superb collection of  truly personal first hand accounts of their favourite plants as chosen by the worlds foremost plants people.   Just as the plants range from herbaceous perennials and grasses, to trees, shrubs, houseplants and everything in between, so too does the writing style offering a window into what each featured gardener is looking for in a plant.

We were delighted to have been asked to contribute to this book, what did we choose?  Actaea ‘Queen of Sheba’, a true desert island plant for us.  It has shepherds crook like flowers that erupt in late Summer and early Autumn filling the air with their heady scent.
