Chasmanthium latifolium

Chasmanthium latifolium is more commonly known as wood oats.  We love Chasmanthium latifolium in the garden, ideal for planting at the front of the border.  Bright, lime green foliage is produced throughout the summer months, however this grass really comes into its own in late summer and autumn, when a mass of flowers a little like flattened heads of wheat are produced.  As they mature to seed heads the foliage starts to turn golden/orange hues.

Both the flowers and seed heads are ideal for picking and drying.

Despite its common name we find that in our climate it flowers most freely when positioned in full sun.  H. 60-80cm.
