Serratula tinctoria var. seoanei
Serratula tinctoria var. seoanei is an entirely different diminuitive hardy perennial to contrast wonderfully with the usual late season candidates of asters, grasses and sedums. It forms low mounds of finely dissected foliage and in September – October time fine wiry stems, only 30-40 cm in height, erupt with a mass of knapweed like vibrant purplish-pink flowers. Good seed heads to follow. Lovely to weave through the border front. Sunny position best.
