Veronica longifolia ‘Blue John’

Veronica longifolia ‘Blue John’ is an old variety that has stood the test of time and gives me such joy when in comes into flower in late June-throughout the first half of July. This is a vigorous cultivar that forms good sized clumps, sending up a mass of vertical spikes of rich purple blue. Lovely golden seed heads follow in Winter. Veronicas are shorter then Veronicastrum, so good at the front of the border or middle providing valuable strong vertical accents. Height 60-80cm. For a sunny position. I like it combined with the coral pink flowers of Hemerocallis ‘Pink Damask’ and the scented lavender flowers of Verbena corymbosa.
