Ageratina altissima ‘Chocolate’

I am a great fan of dark foliage in a border, shades of rich burgundy and chocolate brown act as a perfect foil to white, pink and orange flowers.  Somehow the backdrop helps the flower colour zing.

Among the plants that I grow for this affect is Ageratina altissima ‘Chocolate’ which is clothed in in glossy, chocolate brown leaves from the minute it emerges in the spring.  The leaves remain looking good throughout the season and in Autumn are topped off with domes of fluffy white flowers.  Whilst the flowers are a nice addition, it is the foliage that I really grow it for.

Best in rich, moisture retentive soil.
